These sessions are part of the final practical stage of my four-year professional training at the Academie voor Psychodynamica. You can work on something in your own life at a reduced fee, while I develop my skills and experience as a therapist.
Some of my client work is discussed under supervision as part of my training. I write an anonymised report of each session for training purposes.
We explore that together during the introductory call. This programme requires enough stability to work on a personal concern over a short period.
It is not suitable during an acute psychiatric crisis or when specialist or more intensive mental health care is currently needed.
Session content is treated confidentially. Apart from anonymised reports for my training and anonymous discussion in supervision and peer consultation, I do not share information about your sessions without your consent, unless a legal obligation or a carefully assessed exception makes this necessary.
You, however, are free to share anything.
Each 75-minute session costs €50, paid per session. These sessions are not covered by health insurance. You can cancel or reschedule free of charge up to 24 hours before a session. If you cancel less than 24 hours before your session or do not attend, a €50 charge applies to cover the room hire and reservation costs.
The practice is on the first floor of the Gerardushuis at Parkstraat 2 in Deurne. Access is via the outside staircase on Milhezerweg. The room is not wheelchair accessible. Visits are by appointment.
If you are unhappy about something, please tell me. If we cannot resolve it together, you can use the professional association’s independent complaints and disputes process.

Do you feel something is stuck, but nothing has changed so far? In four sessions, we explore what is really going on and how you can move forward.
That is where we begin.
Psychodynamic therapy with a therapist in training
One genuine encounter.
Two people with something to gain.
Four psychodynamic therapy sessions focused on something in your own life, at a greatly reduced fee of €50 per session as part of my training.
The opportunity to develop my work with clients and deepen my skills as I complete the practical part of my four-year professional training.
An initial session followed by three further sessions, working with what you bring. Each lasts 75 minutes, ideally every two weeks, in my space in Deurne.
“It feels as though I can no longer hide. And that is terrifying.” — former client
You come with something you want to move away from, through or towards.
Whether it is about boundaries, how you see yourself, a past that still affects your daily life, what abuse has left behind, or simply things not going so well right now.
We work with what is there.
Sometimes it is very concrete. Tension that will not ease. A loss that still affects you deeply. Processing a traumatic event or discovering what you really want, without constantly taking other people's opinions into account.
But usually, the work is not where you expected it to be.
If that is the case, it may be that what troubles you is also doing something for you. It may protect you, keep you loyal to something or hold at a distance what is still too much.
Change then touches on what you risk losing or confronting when you want to do things differently.
Want some rest? Doing less seems a logical answer. But if stopping feels like letting someone down, guilt simply keeps you working.
Keeping going costs you something. So does stopping. And rest remains out of reach.
That can have quite an impact on your life.
Clearly, or very subtly.
You do not need to see how it all connects yet, or have your story worked out. What you struggle with, what you experience or what you want to change: that is where we begin.
You come with what you know.
That is enough.
Together, we map out what is really going on and what you want to achieve through this programme. We explore what keeps the situation in place and work with that.
If guilt keeps you working, along the way we meet who or what is calling the shots.
We look at your history, your body, your relationships and the systems you are part of. At what you came to do and believe, and what still makes decisions for you today.
Your system does not speak in just one way, so we do not work on just one level.
If you stop halfway through a sentence, I notice. If you brush something aside while your hands tell a different story, I see it, and I do not have to bring it up straight away.
What happens between us is part of the work too.
I bring in what I experience.
If you turn away, we stay. If you shut down, we stay. What protects you or offers resistance has a reason. That is precisely where we work.
What you want to achieve gives us direction, but does not decide in advance what receives attention.
What calls for attention does.
Where words are enough, we stay in conversation. Where another way in is needed, we take it. I choose and combine methods. You decide what you engage with.
The method follows what is needed, not the other way around.
One time we use EMDR or work with a constellation. Another time, inner child work, regression and bodywork come together in one session.
Methods are tools. Presence is the foundation.
Insight without integration changes nothing.
We need to notice what shifts in your daily life.
A belief loses its grip, a memory carries less emotional weight, or grief finally has room. What you have been through does not have to keep determining how you live or make choices today.
Let the compulsion go, so the strength remains.
You notice it in your body: less heaviness, more calm. You can better sense what you need and act on it, even if that disappoints someone else.
You express a boundary, even if that feels daunting, or notice that you do not always have to play the same role to stay connected to the other person.
That creates more choice where things now happen mostly on autopilot.
Often, what drives you then becomes clearer. You can move more freely in situations that used to get stuck, remain more calmly present and sense more clearly what is yours and what belongs to someone else.
Or you notice that you finally dare to take a step that matters to you, without freezing at the very thought of it.
The work can also make room for what you long for. Allowing closeness, and staying, without abandoning yourself. Letting yourself be seen, and staying, including the less appealing parts.
Saying what has long gone unspoken…
and staying.
Four sessions will not suddenly change your whole life. At the end, we look together at what has been able to shift, what that means to you and what still needs attention.
Not everything has to be resolved before you can move on.
But what we do in the room needs to make a difference outside it.
I am Niels (47).
Esther's husband, Charlie Mae's father.
A psychodynamic therapist in training, with more than twenty years of experience in business, followed by youth care.
It is all neatly listed on LinkedIn.
It just does not tell you who will be sitting across from you.
I can tell you what I have been through. How I grew up. What I learned about love, fear and loyalty. How you can keep going in situations that never really resolve.
Or how you learn to stay with what you know, while losing yourself in carrying things and taking responsibility.
The world rewards people who are good at abandoning themselves. Until the bill comes.
I remember my GP saying he had expected me sooner, when I presented mine. I held out for a long time, then, I thought at the time.
Part of me is still proud of that.
My attention to others has remained. So has my ability to see, act and carry. Only the necessity from back then no longer decides what I do with it.
It shaped me in what was difficult.
And in what I can do.
I can stay with everything you show. Even when I am touched, it gets uncomfortable, or I do not know for a moment. I bring myself and carry my share of the encounter, so that you do not quietly end up doing that for me.
I stay, so that you can too.
And yes, there is laughter here too. We are not going to spend four sessions hunting for misery. It can be fun, too.
That is the man who will be sitting across from you.
Four psychodynamic therapy sessions at a significantly reduced rate
For the final practical stage of my training, I have room for a limited number of training clients. Across four 75-minute sessions, we work on what you want to change. With room for what is difficult and for what you long for.
The programme has a clear structure. What we work on responds to what you bring.
After four sessions, we take stock together. You may feel the work is complete, or you may want to continue. Any further sessions fall outside this four-session programme and we will discuss them together.
You can stop the programme at any time.
